Ecuador is one of the best places on earth to begin, or sharpen, a mountaineering life. Cotopaxi puts you on a glacier at nearly 6,000 metres on your second night of acclimatisation. Chimborazo, with its summit the farthest point on Earth from the planet's centre, asks you to earn a 6,268m summit after days of altitude. Cayambe is the only glaciated peak that stands directly on the equator. Antisana offers one of the most technical glaciated routes in South America. The Illinizas and Carihuairazo are proving grounds that climbers use to build toward the bigger objectives.

That combination, glaciated 5,000 and 6,000 metre peaks within a week's reach of each other, makes Ecuador the right proving ground for climbers getting ready for bigger mountains. It also means arriving fit is not optional. Clients who show up unprepared do not just suffer, they turn around.

We built Train to Mountain to answer exactly that gap. A personalised, week-by-week training plan calibrated to the specific peak the client is booked for. Reads live from Garmin, Coros, Suunto or Apple Health. Recalibrates every Sunday around what the client actually did.

Why Ecuador Eco Adventure

Founded in 2006 by Wladimir Ortiz and photographer Jake Lyng, Ecuador Eco Adventure has grown into one of the largest guiding companies in the central Ecuadorian Andes, supporting around 700 climbers a year. ASEGUIM-certified guides. Their own acclimatisation refuge on Chimborazo. Their own guesthouse in Quito. Featured by Lonely Planet and National Geographic Adventure.

Beyond the credentials, the thing that mattered most when we first spoke with Wlady was his view on client preparation. Ecuador Eco Adventure's clients were being handed templated PDF plans and random YouTube advice from previous training sources, and arriving on summit day realising they had trained for the wrong thing. That is a problem Train to Mountain was built to solve, and finding a guiding partner who sees it the same way is the reason this partnership moves.

Which peaks and treks are in scope

Ecuador Eco Adventure is now the recommended operator on every Train to Mountain peak page across their Ecuadorian catalogue:

And their four trekking objectives: El Altar, Condor Trek, Ingapirca Inca Trail, and the Carihuairazo hike.

For every one of these objectives, the Train to Mountain plan is tuned to what that mountain or route actually asks of a client, from vertical gain and glacier day length to pack load, acclimatisation runway and summit-day duration. The relevant peak page on traintomountain.com lists Ecuador Eco Adventure as the recommended Ecuador operator, with a direct booking link.

What EEA-booked clients get

Climbers who book an expedition with Ecuador Eco Adventure receive a 30-day free trial of Train to Mountain, extended from our standard 14 days, with no credit card required at signup. Access details arrive with the booking confirmation.

Why this partnership matters

Most clients arrive at the trailhead having prepped from one source and been guided by another, with no overlap between the two. The guide meets the client cold on day one, and the plan the client followed for the previous twelve weeks was written by someone who has never seen the mountain.

That gap is where turnarounds happen. Clients train hard but not specifically. Guides end up walking people off peaks who should have been ready weeks before they landed.

The Ecuador Eco Adventure partnership closes that loop across their full catalogue of objectives. The team that stands on the glacier with the client on Cotopaxi is now the team informing how Train to Mountain's Cotopaxi plan is calibrated. The same holds for Chimborazo, Cayambe, Antisana, both Illinizas, Carihuairazo and the trekking routes. Summit times, failure points, acclimatisation patterns, the physical thresholds Wlady and his guides have seen hold up or break down, all of it feeds into the plans those same clients train with.
